About Us

photo4Quilt Guild of Greater Houston is a group of quilters and quilt lovers, almost 400 strong, who meet to share our love of this artform. You don't need to be a quilter to join the guild. Anyone with a love of quilts is welcome to join.

The Quilt Guild of Greater Houston, also known as QGGH, was founded in 1976 with initial membership of 25 people and had membership numbers as high as 470. Throughout the years, many locally and nationally prominent quilters have lectured and conducted workshops for the Guild.

With its large membership, the Guild supports a wide variety of events and activities, from the many bees across town to charitable projects, workshops, and demonstrations. There are two meetings each month, and members are encouraged to attend both. Evening meeting attendance is generally between 150 and 250 and usually features a nationally-known guest speaker. Morning meetings usually have around 75 members attending and frequently feature a hands-on demonstration by well-known local quilters. Times and locations are listed below.

QGGH supports an extensive library, which is open to all members and has a wide collection of books and reference materials available for checkout. The library is made available at both meetings, and is free of charge.

The Guild participates in many community projects. Quilts are donated to various organizations around Houston, including The Center for Abused Women, Camp for All, the Star of Hope, and others. Guild-donated quilts are often auctioned as fund-raisers by charitable groups, such as the Ronald McDonald House. Guild volunteers staff the "Learn to Quilt" booth at the International Quilt Festival, and regularly demonstrate quilting, throughout the year, at such venues as the Katy Folk Life Festival, Chi Omega Kaleidoscope, and the George Ranch.

The Guild publishes a monthly newsletter, "Patch Dispatch", to keep members informed. The newsletter includes articles on upcoming speakers and workshops, quilt-related events around Houston, budget and business matters, quilt-shop activities, monthly lottery blocks, listing of "Show and Tell" participants from the last meeting, awards won by Guild members, and any other pertinent information. It is a welcome delivery for each Guild member, especially for those unable to attend the meetings. QGGH also maintains an Internet site, at .

Evening meetings are held the third Tuesday of the month at 7 P.M.; Morning meetings are held the last Wednesday of the month, at 10 A.M. in the Amphitheater  and room 170. Evening  meetings are held in Fellowship Hall at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church, 11612 Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77024.
